Brief Introduction:

Founded in April 1959, the Kunming Institute of Zoology, affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a comprehensive research institution in China focusing on biodiversity evolution, conservation, and sustainable utilization.

Research Focus:

1. Biodiversity & Conservation: Studying and protecting ecosystems in Southwest China, Eastern Himalayas, and Southeast Asia.

1. Evolution & Genetics: Advancing fundamental understanding of evolutionary processes and genomics.

3) Primate Models & Human Health: Developing non-human primate models to understand disease mechanisms and pharmaceutical research.

4) Genetic Resources: Cultivating and studying domestic animal genetics and their wild counterparts.

Core Direction:

1. Animal Diversity Conservation and Bio-industry Empowerment

2. Decoding complex animal traits under the Evo-Devo-AI Framework

3) Creating Disease Animal Models guided by Translational Medicine

Goals:

KIZ aims to build a full-chain innovation system to promote seamless connection from animal resource exploration to industrial application and achieve systematic, holistic breakthroughs in genetic evolution and animal models.
